Today, I wanted to talk about one item that oftentimes gets rushed: wedding family photography. Too often, couples don’t plan adequately for photographs with their families, and that’s a shame because in the future, these will probably be the ones that you cherish the most. Mindful preparation is also the elixir when planning for a stress-free wedding!
In the years ahead, as your family grows, grandparents, and even parents may no longer be with you. So it’s important to set aside the time to have these memorable moments captured.
Oftentimes churches with large congregations schedule back-to-back ceremonies in order to accommodate couples with overlapping dates. That can really put the squeeze on the precious time it takes to get the most natural expressions from everyone. Believe me, there’s nothing more detrimental to that than a harried minister standing in the wings looking at his or her watch.
When couples come to me for advice in this matter, the first thing that I ask them is “where is your reception taking place?” With my years of experience, you can name any location within 50 miles of Cleveland, Ohio and chances are, I’ve been there. The reason I ask is with a well-planned schedule of events, the chances are, there will be a really nice area to take pictures.
Country clubs? Yep. Hotels I’d be surprised if I haven’t worked in one. Bed and breakfasts? You bet. All of them have some great places to shoot, and some, really fantastic!
Of course, the key to all of this is planning ahead. If you know you are going to be one of 5 weddings on your day, then definitely schedule in an alternate location. And don’t forget about the travel time, both from the ceremony location and then over to the reception. If your ceremony is going to take place in the late afternoon, then every minute will be precious. So don’t pick a place that’s more than a 10 or 15 minute drive!
If you know that there will be a time crunch after your ceremony, then why not spend some quality time with your families beforehand? You will have less stress and a lot more time to spend with your loved ones!
Do diligent planning now so that you can plan for a stress-free wedding!
