The arrival of a new member of the Scott and Abby Duffy family was expected (sooner or later), however, the gender was a closely guarded secret. Since Scott’s family lived out of town and most of their friends there too, we were all comfortable having their gender reveal photography in Lakewood Ohio at Lakewood Park.
Gender reveal ideas have cropped up in a big way lately, and with good reason. Only a few decades ago, determining the sex of the fetus was difficult, if not downright impossible. But now, thanks to ultrasound, you can actually get a “photo session” of your currently amphibious child in their watery cocoon!
Scott crafted a homemade sign out of a chalkboard that had a little handle on it. This innovative prop made for some great photo-opps throughout our photoshoot. I hope that this blog post will provide some inspiration for your own gender reveal photo session!
We had originally planned the photography session at Edgewater Park but, due to the coronavirus situation, that park was totally shut down. Scott and Abby liked the idea or Lake Erie for a background, so we continued with that idea.
I always prefer photographing in softer light, so the lower sun was perfect for capturing a warmer color and more pleasing skin tones. And speaking of color, Abby’s pink floral dress contrasted nicely with the greenery of the trees in the background.
Throughout the session, I was mindful of social distancing, and kept a close watch on the surroundings to be certain that I wasn’t putting my clients in any danger. It seemed like everyone else was respectful of that as well, so I was able to concentrate on giving the Duffys the best possible session experience.
