My client, Monica, had planned to have a beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony at the Crawford Auto Museum. But it was raining on and off throughout the morning and she didn’t want to take a chance on having her guests get soaked, so she decided to move everything inside. Unfortunately, this would have involved relocating over a hundred chairs, not to mention all the flowers and floral trellis! She was SO disappointed!
I noticed that there was a large open space just outside of the museum and the perfect solution dawned on me. So, I gently pulled Monica and Eric aside and offered this suggestion: Since their ceremony would be very brief, the guests could all just informally gather around. The couple could still enjoy their ceremony in the lovely gardens, especially since there would be a quick and easy escape to nearby shelter in case of another downpour.
At the appointed time, Eric, friends and family gathered outside the gate, anticipating Monica’s grand entrance. She didn’t disappoint. With a gentle breeze wafting her veil, she stepped into the cool spring air all smiles, arm-in-arm with her dad. And with all of their guests surrounding the couple, the vows and ring exchange seemed that much more intimate. Before you knew it, everyone was back inside for the cocktail hour!
The array of classic automobiles lent a festive air to the reception and made a great backdrop for the dancing. All went well until one more wild-card exposed itself during the evening; an unexpected power outage! Fortunately, a cd player was produced and the floor lit with small candles. The power was soon restored, thanks to a backup generator just outside the rear entrance. Eric and Monica seemed to thoroughly enjoy their wedding, despite the inclement weather and electrical blowout. They and their guests danced and laughed until late in the evening.
True wedding professionals are more than just service providers. With the right person, whenever an unexpected situation occurs, you can be pretty sure that they have “been there, done that” and most likely, they are much better prepared to offer you the best way to overcome whatever malady threatens to ruin your event.
In this case, advice from their photographer saved the day and made Monica and Eric’s Crawford Auto Museum outdoor wedding a very happy one!
